Welcome Our Three Newest Brother Knights

Bob Childress

Born in Greenville, South Carolina in 1946, Bob moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin at age five and returned to South Carolina at age twelve. After graduating high school in 1964, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1965, serving honorably until his discharge in 1969.

Bob began his professional career in sales with NCR Corporation in San Antonio, Texas, before returning to school at Florida State University, where he earned a B.A. in 1975 and an M.A. in European History in 1976. He then pursued doctoral studies in Russian Studies at the University of Virginia from 1976 to 1981, also serving as an adjunct faculty member there from 1980 to 1981.

His professional journey continued with leadership roles in Human Resources and Total Quality Control at Sperry Marine in Charlottesville, Virginia, and Albuquerque, New Mexico (1982–1992). Later, he served as Vice President of Allred Marketing in Phoenix, Arizona (1992–2004), before retiring.

Bob reflects humbly on his faith journey:

“During most of those years, God was kinder to me than I was to Him. Still a sinner, of course, but working to be a better Catholic and better human being. The support of my Brother Knights is a critical piece of that effort, and I am very pleased to have been accepted as a member of this Council.”

Matt Brown

Born in September 1958 in Auburn, New York, Matt moved to Shreveport, Louisiana in 1980 with his brother Chris to work at Pierremont Oaks Tennis Club. In 1984, he founded Sportspectrum Inc., a high-end sports specialty store that grew from 1,200 to 10,000 square feet over his 43 years as proprietor.

Matt served on the Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society for 10 years and personally raised $10,000 by running 60 miles in 12 hours in honor of his mother, who passed away from cancer at age 60. His leadership and community service were widely recognized—he was named the Independence Bowl’s Carl Mikovich Sportsman of the Year (2010) and led Sportspectrum Race Management, producing and timing more than 100 races annually, including the Rivercities Triathlon, Firecracker 5K, and Autumn Breeze Road Race. These events raised thousands of dollars each year for local charities and nonprofit causes.

His business excellence earned numerous honors:

  • Top 10 Small Business of the Year (2002) – North Louisiana

  • Louisiana Small Business of the Year (2003)

  • One of the 50 Best Running Stores in America – 2014, 2015, and 2017

Matt and his wife, Charlotte, are celebrating 31 years of marriage and are the proud parents of three daughters—Anna (28), Julia (26), and Becca (23). After selling Sportspectrum and SRM in November 2022, Matt is now semi-retired and enjoying life in Hot Springs Village.

“I loved going to work every day, and now I’m grateful to bring that same passion for service and community to the Knights of Columbus.”

Ty Woods

Ty was born and raised in Hot Springs and moved to Hot Springs Village in 2019. He is married to his wife, Lindsey, a speech therapist, and together they are raising their son, Jack, who attends Jessieville Middle School.

Professionally, Ty works in consulting, marketing, and technology, helping businesses improve operations and strengthen community connections. He also serves as Operating Director for Bennett Brothers Stone of Hot Springs and Village Precision Pros, guiding day-to-day operations and business growth.

A lifelong Catholic, Ty attended St. John’s School in Hot Springs, where his faith foundation began. Today, he lives that faith through service—volunteering with the Jessieville Fellowship Club and supporting local recovery and outreach efforts.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to live, work, and serve alongside my fellow Knights here in the Village.”
